Getting Crafty

For those who know me well at all, you know that I am not the most creative or crafty person... That being said, I would like to be. Shane got me a sewing machine for a Valentine's gift this year and, sadly, it has not been used much. That is beginning to change. Thanks to my amazing friend Natalie, I recently learned how to sew a nursing cover! (I know, how hard could it be? It's just a rectangle, right? It's actually a lot harder than it looks - at least it was for me...) So with Natalie's help, I made the pink and brown one for myself. I was so excited that I went home and sewed the blue and green one for my sister Diana who is living in New York, and I'm sure will have plenty of opportunities to use a nursing cover. She's having a boy and is due only 8 days before I am. This makes it a little awkward for my mom, who wants to be in both places at once...she compromised by booking a flight to NY, and promising to send my dad out here when my baby comes.

Also thanks to Natalie who did a craft night, I made this family tree. (Okay, this one was pretty easy, it came in a kit and it mostly just required cutting and gluing...and a little family research of course). I love the result, and I learned some pretty cool stories along the way. You may not be able to tell, but there are actually names written on all the leaves.

And last, just for your viewing pleasure of course, a picture of moi modeling the new nursing cover. Alas, I didn't think Brooklyn would be able to snap a shot without cutting off my head, so instead you get my head...with most of the nursing cover cut off. Here's to many more projects and many more hours on my sewing machine!

Wow, Maria! You did an awesome job with all three? Is there anyway I can get a pattern for your family tree? I love that!

Very fun! Don't feel bad about waiting a few months before putting your sewing machine to use. I got one for college graduation and have only really used it this summer... which means it took me about three years to put it to use. Needless to say - I'm impressed! Also I like your cute nursing covers and the family tree. I want to put more family history up on my walls.... need to think more on that. Thirdly, it was fun seeing you more this summer. :)

They look so cute, great job. And I love that family tree, I may have to use that idea for myself.

Way to sew! I'll get to that in the next life. Although I did make a nursing cover too, and love it.

I'm always up for a sewing day. We can sew a little and then unpick a lot (at least that's what I always end up doing...). I think your projects turned out so cute. I should have you two teach me how to sew a nursing cover, yours turned out so cute.

Cool! I had no idea Diana was expecting. And the nursing covers turned out great! So cute. And how random with the family tree. I made one of those recently, too! It was a lot of fun. I think yours looks cooler than mine did though. Haha.
